I have some strong beliefs around the use of NLP in therapy. Read my article titled We Embody the Way: Power Rooted in Presence, Not Persuasion I ask all Real Naturo practitioners to reframe from using NLP, however I do see its use in the short term, to stimulate imagination, an essential key to freedom.

However nlp offers some fun mindset approaches to move into a state of empowerment. This is the “Superhero Shift” . This is a playful, imaginative and action-oriented way to embrace your inner strength and take control of your life.

Here’s how you can apply it:

1. Activate Your Superpower

Imagine you’re a superhero because, guess what? You are. Everyone has unique strengths, and tapping into them can be incredibly empowering. It’s not just about “finding” a superpower it’s about recognizing it and deciding to unleash it. Whether it’s creativity, resilience, empathy, or problem-solving, own your superpower like it’s your greatest asset.

How to activate it:

  • Think of a time when you’ve overcome something challenging. That’s your superhero moment. Now, remind yourself of that strength each day.
  • Whenever faced with a challenge, ask yourself: “How would my superhero self handle this?” Tap into that mental space and take action.

2. Create Your “Hero’s Journey”

Empowerment comes from seeing life as a journey, with twists, turns, and triumphs. Every obstacle is just a chapter in your story one where you rise stronger than before. Approach your daily life as an epic quest, and you’re the main character navigating it.

How to do it:

  • Visualize yourself as the hero of your own adventure. You have a mission, and every step you take is part of that journey.
  • Write down your own “hero’s origin story”—how did you get here, and what challenges have shaped you? Then, create your next chapter: What are the exciting adventures you want to embark on now?

3. Shift to Playful Curiosity

Empowerment thrives when you have a sense of playful curiosity. Life doesn’t have to be so serious. Adopt a mindset that is open to experimentation, fun, and learning. When you approach things with curiosity, you allow yourself to explore different ways of thinking and being, without the pressure of perfection.

How to do it:

  • Ask yourself, “What would happen if I just play with this situation?” Instead of approaching challenges with fear or stress, try approaching them like a game a puzzle to solve or a fun experiment to learn from.
  • Look at each mistake or setback as a learning opportunity. Think of it like a game where the more you practice, the better you get.

4. Use the “Power Pose”

You’ve probably heard of the idea that body language can influence your mindset. This is where the fun comes in: take a moment to strike a superhero pose. Stand tall, hands on hips, chest out like you’re ready to take on anything. It’s playful, it’s empowering, and it literally changes your energy in a split second.

How to do it:

  • Before entering a challenging situation or starting your day, stand like a superhero for two minutes. Put your feet wide apart, shoulders back, and smile. Feel your body shift into a more confident, empowered version of yourself.
  • This small action tells your brain: “I’m in control. I’ve got this.”

5. Celebrate Small Wins Like a Hero

Heroes are always celebrating their victories, big or small. Empowerment comes from acknowledging every step forward. Whether it’s overcoming a challenge, learning something new, or even just getting out of bed on a tough day, celebrate your achievements like a superhero saving the day!

How to do it:

  • Every time you accomplish something—no matter how minor—treat it like a win. Throw your hands up and say, “Yes! Another victory for the hero!” You might even want to create a fun reward system (like buying yourself a small treat or doing something enjoyable after completing a task).
  • Keep a “Victory Journal” where you write down everything you accomplished that day. It’ll remind you of how powerful you are!

6. Embrace Your Flaws as Your “Villains”

Even superheroes have flaws and villains to face. Instead of viewing your flaws or challenges as obstacles, reframe them as your villains and every time you tackle them, you become more powerful.

How to do it:

  • Think about your challenges or weaknesses like your “villains.” How can you defeat them? Maybe your villain is procrastination, and your superpower is focus. Every time you push past procrastination, you’re winning the battle.
  • Laugh at your villains—don’t take them too seriously. By shifting the way you view your struggles, you’ll take away their power.

Play Your Way to Empowerment

Empowerment doesn’t always have to be serious or intense. In fact, approaching it with fun and a sense of adventure can be incredibly effective. The Superhero Shift allows you to take responsibility for your life with a lighthearted, playful attitude while still harnessing your inner strength.

You’re the hero of your story, and your powers are limitless. So, what are you waiting for? Put on your cape (metaphorically or literally!), step into your power, and start making life a fun, adventurous journey.
